There is an increasing need to focus on sustainable practices that prioritize the future of people and the planet in everything we do.
With over 70 years of experience, Grupo AG is a leader in sustainability, having integrated it into its business strategy, guided by its purpose: “Together, we improve lives to transform our society”.
Over the past decade, Grupo AG has transformed its practices, elevating compliance standards and pioneering industry responsibility towards the environment and the quality of its processes and products.
Sustainable Practices
Since 2021, the organization has defined its material topics to guide management based on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) criteria, marking a significant milestone in its history.
The business strategy aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), focusing on four key areas: Product, Planet, People, Prosperity.
Grupo AG continues to lead as the largest recycler of metallic waste, recycling over 300,000 tons of waste into high-quality steel products such as Grado 60 and Grado 80 rebars; reducing pollution by 70% and increasing renewable energy use by 83% since 2023.
Additionally, its steel rebars achieved green label recertification, following certifications from the Centro Guatemalteco de Producción más Limpia (CGP+L) and the Guatemala Green Business Council (GGBC) for sustainable construction materials.
Carbon footprint reduction efforts since 2022 have achieved significant results, with the corporate carbon footprint reported at 1.10 tons of CO2e per ton of steel in 2023.
By the end of 2023, Grupo AG prevented the disposal of common waste in landfills through its recycling policy, valorising 50% of these wastes, equivalent to 150 tons annually.
Furthermore, Grupo AG joined the Partnership for Central America (PCA) and the Anti-Corruption and Transparency Initiative for Central America (ACT Project), committing to OECD guidelines for responsible business conduct and contributing significantly to the socio-economic development of future generations in the region.

“This new unit symbolizes our determination to innovate and reach new heights. Together, we will discover pioneering solutions, forge partnerships, and pave new paths to success,” said Rodrigo Gabriel, CEO of Grupo AG.
To thrive in today’s environment, it is essential to innovate and respond to challenges and opportunities presented by unprecedented events such as digital transformation, artificial intelligence, environmental crises, social changes, and shared opportunities.
“We are ready to face new challenges and opportunities, driven by the conviction that together we can build a better society. Guatemala and Central America are at a crucial point, full of potential and possibilities.
